The Yoga Class That Builds a Scout Hut

Wellesbourne is the kind of place where people still know their neighbours. Where the same families have been involved in the same community groups for generations. Where when something needs building, someone quietly gets on and builds it.

The Scout group has been part of village life here since 2009. Week after week, volunteers give their weeknight evenings and countless weekends so that local children can learn to work as a team, push their limits and discover what they are capable of when someone believes in them. It is unglamorous, consistent, generous work. Exactly the kind that holds a community together.

Yvonne and her husband Matthew have been central to that work since 2013. Together they support the leaders, children and families of Wellesbourne Scouts – the people they know by name, in the village they call home.

It is that same instinct – to serve close to home, in the most direct way possible – that led Yvonne to start Selfcare Yogaday. After completing 500 hours of advanced teacher training across the UK and India, she brought it all back to Wellesbourne and opened her Saturday morning yoga classes at The Hub. Open to everyone. No experience needed.

And every penny raised goes toward building a new Scout hut for Wellesbourne.

The connection is a simple one. Yoga, at its heart, is built on the same values that have always driven the Scout movement. Kindness. Honesty. Self-discipline. Contentment. Service to others without expectation of reward. Five thousand years of Indian philosophy and the Scouting movement arrived, independently, at the same conclusion about what makes a good life and a good community.

On a Saturday morning in Wellesbourne, those two traditions meet.

Selfcare Yogaday – weekly on Saturday mornings at The Hub, 8:00am to 12noon. All welcome.
